Celebrating International Yoga Day 2017

15 June 2017 | beando_admin

Whether you commemorate the occasion at home on your mat, at a class or as part of a yoga event, let’s celebrate International Yoga Day 2017 together on 21 June.

What is International Yoga Day 2017?

International Yoga Day celebrates its third birthday on Wednesday 21 June 2017, following its inception on the same day in 2015. Originally proposed by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as International Yoga Day.

Due to yoga’s universal appeal, the International Day of Yoga aims to raise worldwide awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga

At our sister company, The YogaLife Project, we celebrate yoga in our classes and our yoga retreats, while at beanddo our modern meditation programmes tend to be led by tried, trusted and very effective yoga techniques.

Yoga for Health

This year’s theme is ‘Yoga for Health’, which aims to highlight the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving an equilibrium between mind and body. This approach to health and wellbeing can make a direct contribution to us as humans moving towards lifestyles that are in harmony with nature. And couldn’t we do with a bit more of that at the moment?

How can I celebrate?

This year, we are proud to be supporting The Life Centre North with their ‘Yoga for Mental Health’ event on 21 June. They have teamed up with Manchester mental health charity 42nd Street, who support young people aged 11-25 with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.

On the day, there will be a four-hour ‘yogathon’ taking place at Manchester’s Great Northern Square. The event is open to everybody – so whether you’re brand new to yoga and would love to give it a try or are completely devoted to your regular practice, you’ll get something from the event. Plus you will be raising money for a great cause, what’s not to like?!

Classes will work on a drop-in basis, so you can join for as little or as much yoga as you like. The classes are free, but you must register, so do that now to ensure you don’t miss out.

The event runs from 5pm – 9pm and our founder, Mick Timpson, will be leading a 15-minute meditation session at 7pm on the day, so don’t forget to say hello!
